Don't be scared to take fewer cards.

Grab wild cards if you can, even if there's not much else with it.

Keep an eye on who also needs which cards and try to make it hard for your opponents (especially the ones who are ahead)

Sometimes you get unlucky. Just go with it and trash-talk your opponents like you're still winning.
